Meet Alvertis Brooks Jr.

Born in the Central District of Seattle, Alvertis has lived in and around the Seattle area his entire life. A product of Seattle Public Schools (SPS), he was an active three-sport athlete (Golf, Basketball, and Track and Field) and member of the band.  

He received his undergraduate degree from Seattle University in Accounting and Finance and his Master’s degree from the University Of Washington School of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education at the University of Washington Leadership for Learning program.

Alvertis served as an internal auditor for regional and national organizations for seven years. During this time, he started a non-profit focused on supporting inner-city youth in navigating their college experience. Because of this, he left his role as an auditor to work in education where he has now spent the better part of 15 years. Having served as an Intervention Counselor for Franklin High School (Public School – Southeast Seattle) and Broadview Thomson (Public School - North Seattle), Director of Middle School Athletics - University Prep (Independent Private – Northeast Seattle), Director of Community Development - Rainier Valley Leadership Academy (Public Charter – Southeast Seattle), and the Assistant Director of Athletics - SPS (Public Schools – Seattle), he has experience in an variety of academic environments.

Alvertis has 3 children in independent and Catholic schools, has served on a number of advisory boards focused on the development of culturally responsive spaces for students and families of color. Additionally, he serves as a board member for Seattle United (Governance) and Rainier Valley Community Development Fund (Executive Committee ; Treasurer).
